Holy cow!

So I don’t think that I can count that high as to how long it has been since my last blog. I’ll just leave it at, “Sorry”.

It’s a strange thing how people can easily forget about the things that make them happy. This was one of those things for me. As soon as life became busy with moving, planning a wedding, working, and trying to just find time in the day to spend with loved ones, the simple little things slip through the cracks. I say no more!

Priorities shift all the time. Sometimes for the best and sometimes not so much. With everything being so fast paced and automatic it’s extremely difficult to slow down and just take a few deep breaths. I’m twenty seven years old, I will be working in some form or fashion well into my later years, why do I need to place my job and money into a slot of such high priority? I am tired of the real important things not holding the top spots on my priority list.

Take a time out from your busy life, your busy schedule. Start enjoying today, put the things you love to do high on your list and put the people you love and care about even higher. At the end of the day joy and personal fulfillment will be a great reward.

Best day of my life…

Best day of my life...

What can I say, yesterday was the greatest day of my life! I asked my best friend to spend the rest of my life with me and she said YES!!!! I am so excited to share every moment with this beautiful woman. I thank God everyday for delivering the perfect partner for me. My heart is very full right now, and I’m not really sure what else to say!

New found obsession…

As you can see, I have started taking pictures. This was brought on when my wonderful significant other gave me a DSLR camera for Christmas. Since then, it’s been about taking pictures in my spare time. There is something interesting about snapping a picture of something most people wouldn’t look twice at. It’s hard to find the beauty in everyday common things, but when you find it you can become lost in it. This picture for instance. This is simply a nut and bolt on one of the support beams for a pier near where I live. Nothing exceptional about it, no healing properties, no incredible colors or shapes, man-made, ultimately normal. And yet for some reason I took almost one hundred pictures of this nut and bolt. There is something interesting about the uncelebrated, the over looked, the simple. Who knows how long this has been here (probably some old civil engineer that designed it could tell me) but the important thing is that it is there. It is there and it is there to do its’ job. Ramble, ramble, ramble. What I want to get out through this entry is that there is something to be had in every little thing. No matter how minuscule and unappreciated you might feel, there is always someone out there that will take the time to notice and appreciate everything that you have done.

Top of the rock

Man, it has been awhile!
Well here is me getting back on track. A few days ago nature was calling me, not in that way. “Get outside, get away, get some fresh air.” Nature can be kind of bossy sometimes. But with bossy nature whispering in my ear and my roommate to show me a great view, I was able to get away. This was just what the doctor ordered. In a time where my mind had been so weighed down by questions like; what am I going to do with my life, what decisions am I going to make about work, about continuing my education, what is my path supposed to be, clearing my mind with some peace and serenity is exactly what I needed.
It helped me realize a few things.

First, calm down! You only have a small amount of control over your life, why waste the energy worrying about the things you can’t control. Sounds cliche, right? Funny thing about cliches, they are cliches because they are true! That’s the most I have ever used the word “cliche” at one time. Cliche.

Second, enjoy your time. Did you know that there are 86,400 seconds in twenty-four hours? That means if you sleep for eight hours a night, you are only awake for 57,600 seconds. I don’t care who you are, that is not a lot of time.

Third, take a chance. Remember those 86,400 seconds? Use them. Make a mistake, ruin your life, take a chance. Put yourself out there, you never know who you will meet, what you will do, or where you will go. Always keep in mind, you will be okay. If all you did was wake up this morning, your day is already better than most.
